At Rutgers, being a part of Greek life is not a necessity. However, being a part of it does in fact give you an advantage. Not only does joining a fraternity ease the transition into college, but it also helps you find friends who are interested in the same things as you are, and it can also help you really feel at home here at school.
Interfraternity Council (IFC) recruitment usually begins the second or third week of the semester. It runs for two weeks, cumulating in a “bid” day, where prospective students are individually offered a chance to join the fraternity. But in order to receive that “bid”, one must go out and meet as many Greek members as possible. The fraternities and sororities make it as easy and as comfortable as possible by holding recruitment events throughout the year.
When considering joining a fraternity, consider the type of organization you want to be a part of. Look at the organization’s history on campus and meet the members. Ask a lot of questions. Use resources like the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA), located at 15 Bartlett Street. Know how much costs will be and what the time commitments are like. And always remember to be yourself.

Inter-fraternity Council (IFC) recruitment is a two week period during the fall and spring semester when fraternities can extend bids to potential members. A bid is an invitation to join a greek organization. Anyone even remotely considering joining a fraternity must register online at the IFC website.

How To Join a Fraternity at Rutgers
1. YOU MUST register online at the OFSA website for official recruitment.
http://getinvolved.rutgers.edu/fraternities-and-sororities/potential-members
2.Go out, be yourself, and meet brothers of all the fraternities at the University. Most fraternities will publicize rush events where you can go to meet the brothers. All events are dry. Bring a friend or two with you and try to get a feel for each organization. Some have websites you can check out for info. You can also look at the OFSA and IFC websites for information or stop by their office. Just remember to have some fun! Remember you can find out a lot of information by just asking questions. If there is one thing that all fraternity members love as much as being in a fraternity, it would be talking about being in a fraternity.
